Botany Bay was the name of the harbour in Sydney, Australia. When the British first colonised Australia, they turned the bay into a continental prison for their convicts, who were originally from half a world away, with no way back. When SG-1 was sent to the prison colony of Hadante with no possible way out, due to no Dial Home Device, Dr. Daniel Jackson compared the two prisons. (SG1: "Prisoners")
