Pleione was an Oceanid in Greek mythology, thus she was the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys. By Atlas, she was also the mother of the Pleiades; seven sisters named after their mother (Alcyone, Celaeno, Electra, Maia, Merope, Sterope and Taygete). Her other children were Hyas and the Hyades.
