Jared Evan Grace is the 9-year-old son (13 in the movie) of Helen and Richard Grace. He has a twin brother named Simon, and an older sister named Mallory. When his parents split up and they had to move to the Spiderwick Estate, he was not happy. He had already began to get into more fights and was causing trouble. In the hidden room in the attic of their new house, Jared finds Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You, a book that opens up a whole new world to him and his siblings. Jared is friends with Thimbletack the brownie and Hogsqueal the hobgoblin. His enemies consist of Mulgarath the Ogre, goblins that were Mulgarath's "helpers", and Wormrat, leader of the Goblins. He also gets in fights with his sister a lot.
