The short-lived Republic of Great Britain and Ireland was declared in 1893 in the aftermath of the Third Global War. Ruinous hyperinflation and impossible reparations demands generated anger directed at the central government. It was felt that Britain's imperial ambitions were to blame, and the government fell. Many were angry that, though the Prime Minister and other ministers of state, as well as much of Parliament, had paid for leading the nation into war, King Albert himself remained on the throne. In 1893, an angry mob forced the King to abdicate. He fled to Philadalphia, in the North American Confederation, which openly accepted him.
