Macquinn "Mac" Carter is Tyler Gage's best friend in Step Up. They attended the same public school in Baltimore, Maryland. They often played basketball, attended Omar's parties and stole cars together. In the begining of the movie they broke into MSA together. Most of the time Mac's younger brother Skinny Carter would follow them. As the story progresses, Tyler would dedicate more and more of his time to practicing with Nora Clark for the showcase, which is why their friendship suffered for a while. When Skinny died, Mac and Tyler held his body and attended his funeral. At the end of the movie Mac came to see Tyler in the senior showcase. After the show he told Tyler he did not know Tyler could dance so good.
