The Spider-Demons (Q."Ungweraukar" S."Ungolrogath") were lesser Ainur, spirits of the Outer Darkness who had taken Fanar similar to giant Spiders. Of all Spider-Demons, Ungoliant was by far the most powerful.Most others, especially the males, were far less abominable.The Great Spiders of the later ages were the lesser, and mortal, spawn of this ancient Demon race.
