Volgograd Tractor Plant until 1961 was called the Stalingrad Tractor Factory named for Dzerzhinsky (, Stalingradskiy traktornyy zavod im. F.E. Dzerzhinskogo, or ,. The plant was built in one of the first industrial sites that were built according to the plans of rapid industrialization of the USSR, adopted in the late 1920s. The construction of the Stalingrad Tractor Factory was carried out with the assistance of Western countries, primarily the United States.
