Potions in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are similar to the potions in The Witcher 2, a major difference being that most potions can be upgraded to Enhanced and, in turn, Superior versions which increase the buff effects, dosage limit and buff duration time, and decrease the toxicity. Potion recipes can be looted from chests, or bought from herbalists and alchemists in the world.
