A massive starship warps in to the galaxy's third quadrant. Apparently the quadrant is now a disaster area having been nearly destroyed by a warmongering alien race in their attempt to take over the galaxy. The area is full of chunks of rock and dead spacecraft. They find a gigantic fortress which is still partially operational as it launches missiles at them. The missiles hit them, but do not explode. When asked why the alien home planet was not destroyed after the war, the captain explains it was because the planet was seen as too beautiful to destroy. The planet is revealed as Earth, and the crew of the starship not human, but alien. .
