During his career in music, Matlovsky composed scores for a number of feature film and television projects, including the series Flipper and Philip Marlowe, Private Eye. He got a Gemini Award nomination for the latter. He also wrote the music for the 1966 film Namu, the Killer Whale, which starred Robert Lansing, John Anderson, and Lee Meriwether. Besides this, Matlovsky worked as an orchestrator on the 1960 film Spartacus, which featured Trek alumni Jean Simmons, Peter Brocco, John Hoyt, Arthur Batanides, William Blackburn, Paul Lambert, Dick Crockett, Seamon Glass, and Vic Perrin.
