Ammann was founded in 1869 in Eisenbahnstrasse, Switzerland by Jakob Ammann, with a motorized road roller being developed in 1911. In 1995, they purchased Rammax to add trench rollers to the product lineup. In 2005, they purchased Stavostroj (STA) of the Czech Republic to further expand the lineup. In 1995, Ammann and Yanmar entered a joint venture to produce mini excavators in Saint-Dizier, France.
