After Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell and Jolan's brother Volnek seriously wounded each other in the Sodan's first encounter with SG-1, Jolan treated Mitchell's injury and trained him to fight in the Kel shak lo ritual — in which Jolan intended to kill him. During the training, he started to respect Mitchell and agreed the Ori were not gods, eventually agreeing to help him return to Earth by faking his death during the ritual. (SG1: "Babylon")
