The Caúl Plains were the nesting grounds of the Mantoids on Vendaxa. Predators like the Acklay often hunted there, picking off the "weaker" offspring, ensuring that only the fit survived. Once hatched, a Mantoid Nymph lived on the plains until he or she was ready for their final malt before entering adulthood. The Royal Family's offspring had to endure the trials of the Southern Caúl Plains, where the predators were even more abundant than the more sheltered Western Caúl Plains. The idea that the young must fight to survive drew a parallel to Wookiee culture, in which feisty, younger Wookiees were sent away until they grow old and settle down, to decrease problems arising from the hot-tempered youngsters.
