Pedro is the kind stagecoach driver confronted by Johnny Lash, who is protecting the grave of his parents. Pedro disarms Johnny using his whip, and hearing the story of the death of Johnny's parents at the hands of bandits. Pedro adopts the young man, teaching him to expert use of the whip. At Johnny's 17th birthday, Pedro gives him the presents of a whip and a horse. Jonny names the horse Diablo. Pedro is later murdered by Smiley Walker. Johnny becomes the masked-man known as The Whip wreaking vengeance on Walker and his crew.
