The River Scamder flows in a westerly direction north of Gundobad. It is crossed by a number of bridges. One of these is a toll-bridge (crossing fee 2GP) manned by a Troll who lives in a hovel under one of the bridge's arches. Another bridge over the river takes the form of an ancient crumbling fortification inhabited by Gremlins. At one point in its course, the River Scamder spreads out over a flat plain to form the extremely shallow (and deadly) Lake of Death, which may be crossed using the services of puntsmen.
