Kraut was a degoratory term used by American soldiers for describing German soldiers of Nazi Germany during World War II. In 2374, in a holodeck simulation set within this conflict and in which the French Resistance fought the Wehrmacht for control of Sainte Claire, Bobby Davis, a soldier of the United States Army, described the town as "crawling with Krauts". (VOY: "The Killing Game, Part II") According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 443) , the term was a reference to sauerkraut, a popular food of the German culture.
