Barghouti was the Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan during Day 2. Shortly after the failed nuclear attack on Los Angeles, Barghouti called President David Palmer to express the Prime Minister's outrage and horror at what had happened. He also attempted to persuade Palmer not to invade his country. He stated that his government had no ties to the Second Wave terrorist Syed Ali, and had tried numerous times to apprehend him.
