Carmel, the fifth of nine children began singing in church in her homeland of Petion-Ville, Haiti. One of her early engagements began as a lead singer with the group Don Divin in her home church. Aside from that, Carmel has worked with many of Haiti’s different talented artists. One could say that it was her way of "paying her dues" as an aspiring singer. It wasn’t long before she began to be recognized by Haiti’s music community and soon it was requested that she produced her own project. With the help of her husband Jean (Jean Jean) Desgrottes as executive producer, Carmel released her first solo project in 1995. The album was appropriately titled Reflexion.
