Lathen is one of Kalan's five Langadine-born sons, who she had with her second husband, a cousin of King Lainoscopes. Kalan calls Lathen her "second oldest," which may or may not be counting her baby daughter by her first husband in Kothifir. Lathen refuses to leave when Jame and Brier tell him the city is about to be destroyed, insisting that this is his time, where he belongs. He is killed in the city's destruction.
