At some point after the Mage Clan Wars, he captained a ship from Kingsport which sailed north-east on a mining expedition. His first mate, McMahon, became seasick, but while Hanso offered him ale to alleviate his symptoms, McMahon refused each time. During their trip, the ship ran into a storm, and after being battered for three days, a tidal wave carried them inland to Kehjistan. Hanso disappeared in the desert shortly afterwards.
