A prostaglandin is any of a number of fatty molecules that contain precisely 20 carbon atoms which includes a 5 carbon ring. They act as local messenger molecules, particularly in the contraction and relaxation of muscles. They are named after the prostate gland, where they were first discovered, but in fact are produced by almost all cells that have a nucleus Prostaglandin at Wikipedia .
