In 2264, the Farragut was under the command of Captain Stephen Garrovick, who took particular delight in humiliating a junior officer named Lieutenant James T. Kirk in front of the entire crew. In revenge, Lieutenant Kirk arranged for Garrovick and two hundred of his crew to be killed by a dikironium cloud creature. He later claimed that the night after Garrovick's death was his soundest sleep in years.
