The Popular Revolutionaries were an anti-Hapsburg, socialist group that sought to remove Maximilian III from the Mexican throne, sparking the Mexican Civil War in the early 1920s. They were tepidly supported by the United States. The pro-Hapsburg forces were far more enthusiastically and directly supported by the Confederate States. By the middle of the decade, the Popular Revolutionaries had been defeated, and Maximilian's throne was safe, a fact the CS never let him nor his successor forget.
