The loss of Athaniss, a planet so close to both Selene and O'paal, sent shivers up the Imperial High Command. An Imperial fleet was collected at nearby Selene and sent off to Athaniss to reclaim the planet. Despite the best efforts of the Imperials, the naval forces of Palpatine held their ground and forced the retreat of the Imperials, but not without heavy losses. It was at this battle that Danik Kreldin earned the nickname The Nightmare of Athaniss, his and the Black Stars' actions at the battle instilling fear throughout the ranks of the "rebel" navy.
