The Yakovlev UT-2 had a Shvetsov M-11E Engine that was capable of propelling it at a maximum speed of up to 200 km/h. The UT-2 was designed to be a faster and more effective trainer than the elder Polikarpov Po-2 for teaching Soviet pilots how to fly more modern aircraft such as the Lavochkin La-5 or Yakovlev Yak-9. The total weight of the aircraft was around 616 kilograms empty while its total length was about 7.0 meters. The operational range of the aircraft was around 750 kilometers with a service ceiling of 5,000 meters.
