Danny Allred is an expert cryptographer, served in Vietnam with James "Sonny" Crockett ("Pleiku, class of '71"), lives in an airplane reliving the 1970s (listening to The Jimi Hendrix Experience) with an FBI agent circling around watching him. When Crockett finds the gambling book from Oswaldo Guzman, Crockett sends Gina and Trudy to see Allred about decoding the book (according to Crockett, Allred is much faster than the crime lab), and he does, shocked about how easy the code was to break and finding out just how big a bath Alfredo Giulinni has been taking on Guzman's boxing matches.
