UNDER CONSTRUCTION In 1776, the United States declared independence from Great Britain. In the early dayd of America's history, the state of Franklin fought North Carolina. This succeded and the stated of Franklin was born. From 1861-1865, the American Civil War was fought and won. In 1920, Mannhattan became its own state. 1875: Sylvania separated from Michigan. 1880: Jefferson was created from the Northern part of California and the southern part of Oregon. 1892: Southern California secedes from California.
