The Game Boy was a handheld game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo, released in 1989. The Game Boy was the first successful handheld console, and was the predecessor of all other iterations of the Game Boy line. It had a black and green reflective LCD screen, an eight-way directional pad, two action buttons, and Start and Select buttons. The Game Boy enjoyed a 12-year production run across four variants, making it one of Nintendo's most successful products in its history, and the most successful handheld in video game history. It would be succeeded by the Game Boy Advance.
