Savage was with Resistance Organiser Roger Bacon in the Cheddar Gorge, when the Volgs attacked and slaughtered Roger's herd of cattle. Savage interrogated a Volgan wounded in the attack and got information about a train from Birmingham. Savage, Bacon and his men ambushed the train and acquired a mobile Protein Synthesiser machine, which would allow them to manufacture meat from grass.
