Gies was a scout in the mercenary company the Skybolts. He was part of Kerowyn's team when Lerryn Twoblades was Captain. When the mercenary forces hired by Menmellith were routed in a surprise attack by the "bandit" reinforcements out of Karse, Gies suggested the Skybolts escape along a game trail he'd found that lead into Karse. Hoping to shake off the pursuit, the company took it. While most of the officers were eventually killed during the escape, all of Kerowyn's scout team survived, including Gies.
