American Airlines Flight 1340 was an American Airlines domestic scheduled passenger plane crash at Chicago O'Hare Airport on 09 Feb 1998 at 0954 CST on approach to runway 14R. No-one was killed in the accident, though there was substantial damage to the aircraft. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) determined that the crash was caused by "the failure of the flight crew to maintain a proper pitch attitude for a successful landing or go-around. Contributing to the accident were the divergent pitch oscillations of the airplane, which occurred during the final approach and were the result of an improper autopilot desensitization rate."
