A praetoriani is a sort of second in command to a vampire queen, charged with her defense. The closest werewolf equivalent is the Beta. A praetoriani can move farther from the queen than other vampires, due to being in a constant state of swarm in order to ensure her protection. Named praetoriani in the Parasolverse include Lord Ambrose (to vampire queen Countess Nadasdy) and Gahiji (to vampire queen Baroness Tunstell).
