Tsuruchi Kenji married Matsu Atsuko as a part of improving Tsuruchi-Matsu relations. As was customary, he took the Matsu name, but requested from his wife that their first child would take his name, Kenji. It was quite a surprise for him when their first child was a girl, who would be known as Matsu Kenji. A son came later, Matsu Aritomo.
