[Source] The Brazilian Wizarding Insurrection, known in Brazil as simply the Insurrection, was an undeclared civil war between the Brazilian Ministry of Magic and various rebel elements within Wizarding Brazil between 1998 and 2002. The Insurrection began as a political front who voiced opposition to Minister José Antonio Vargas' authoritarian control of the Brazilian Ministry, but slowly turned into full-scale rebellion after the bombing of the Ministry Building in 1998.
