Matthew is the son of Owen and Kate. When he was serving The Sheriff, Joe Lacey shot him in the back by an arrow. Lacey later reveals to Robin that the shot was intended to hit the Sheriff, but the Sheriff moved in the nick of time and it hit Matthew.
