On July 19, a tropical disturbance began to be monitored 600 miles south-east off the coast of the Cape Verde Islands. The next day, it developed into a TD near the Lesser Antilles. On Jul.22, it became a TS. 2 days later, it was declared a C1, then a C2 on Jul.26. It made landfall in the southern Lesser Antilles, or LS, as a C2 hurricane on the 28. There, Dolly killed 28 people. It strengthened to a C3 on Jul.30, then a C4 on Aug.1. It made landfall in Venezuela on the 2. It caused catastrophic damage and killed 1,495 people due to floods and landslides.. It weakened to a TS as it stalled over Venezuela on the 4, killing a further 695 directly, and 265 indirectly people and also leaving 36 people missing.
