The river was a natural border between the Paqu and Navot territories since the treaty of 2279. During the Cardassian Occupation, the river was used for mining operations and diverted twenty kilometers west. In 2369, a compromise was reached between the Paqu and Navot, whereby the land gained by the Paqu was returned to the Navot and the right to free trade access to both sides of the river was established.
