Marred in controversy, the Progressives swept to power through a majority in Parliament in 237 ABY, ousting the Conservative Chancellor Jett Antilles and replacing him with the unpopular Chancellor Serik. By this point, many members of Parliament had secretly aligned themselves with the Sith, including former Chancellor Jett Antilles and his mother Duchess Aledria Fel, a fervent Sithite. The shock removal of Antilles sparked a coup d'état, that sought restore the Sith to power, and establish a new Sith Empire.
