As the name suggests, it is a Dollshouse - modelled on Illbridge House, a haunted house about which MR James wrote, having seen it in the epilogue of the novel - and is also a valuable psychic artifact, home to superdimensional beings. Dollhouse is the title of a poem in the Yellow Dresses sequence.
