Alejande formed from a tropical disturbance 1,014 miles southeast of the Peninsula of Raveja on May 30 as Tropical Depression 1N. 1N initially had its convection displaced to the west, however this did not stop it from becoming Tropical Storm Alejande 12 hours later. Alejande quickly strengthened from 40 mph to 70 mph in just 6 hours. It then became a hurricane while rapidly approaching the Peninsula of Raveja. At 05:00 AM, June 1 it peaked as a 80 mph hurricane while nearing landfall there, however cooler drier air got entrained in its circulation causing it to start slowly weakening, it later made landfall as a 75 mph hurricane in the Peninsula of Raveja.
