The rank of Shireikan designated the commander of an army under the command of a rikugunshokan or daimyo. A shireikan controlled five taisa and their troops, or approximately 25,000 soldiers. Shireikan were commonly members of a daimyo's personal staff, although low ranking ones. The Shireikan often had a small unit of personal guards, and might even own a large castle.
