Budoka was a peasant who had taken up a weapon and chosen to learn the code of Bushido. They did not use samurai weapons, and were well versed in unarmed combat. They were the deputies to the doshin, assistants to either a yoriki or a Magistrate's deputy. Selected from the heimin class by the doshin, budoka might be pressed into service. Their authority was only over minor crimes among the eta.
