The Transvaal Voetbalsvereniging (Transvaal Football Union) domestic soccer leagues were established on November 13, 2007 and commenced play the following month. The Transvaal National League consisted of five Anglo-Afrikaner clubs (Bloemfontien, East London, Johannesburg, Kimberley, and Pretoria) based in the Republic proper and Salisbury in the Rhodesian Protectorate. Blantyre, Kaapstad (Cape Town), Lusaka, Port Elizabeth, Walvis Bay, and Windhoek joined the league as new clubs for the February 2008 season while Salisbury transferred leagues and was renamed Harare.
