Spawning is coding which repopulates the monsters in a game periodically. Thus, players when players kill on the monsters in an area they repop periodically. Spawning was first introduced in the game Avatar. Avatar was a popular game on PLATO, and according to Richard Bartle, was "the first fully functional graphical virtual world."
