Behind Senna came Nigel Mansell, who claimed his first points of his return to Williams, joined by Jean Alesi in third, the Frenchman taking his first Ferrari podium. Alain Prost and Riccardo Patrese had been on for the podium earlier in the race, before both lost out due to unrelated issues, as Senna extended his Championship lead to 29 points.
