The RG655L features a basswood body bolted to a maple and walnut neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. Components include the legendary Ibanez Edge tremolo bridge and DiMarzio pickups in an HSH configuration. A right-handed version, the RG655, came out two years prior. The RG655L was originally offered only in Cobalt Blue Metallic, but a Galaxy Black finish was added later.
