Kyrene (Cyrene) Found to Egypt's west, it was a independent city from Egypt for years. This city had long been a troublesome enemy to Egypt through out Pharaonic Egypt. The Libyan invaders would assemble at this city and attack Egypt from it. When the Ptolemy family took over, Ptolemy I Soter invaded this area and brought under Egyptian control. This ended the Libyan invasions for the time being. By keeping a strong military in the area the Egyptians have maintained their sway over this land.
