An input polarizer was a component of Data's positronic brain. In 2369, Geordi La Forge found an iron filing used by Jean-Luc Picard in 1893, to input a binary message entered into Data's static memory, blocking Data's input polarizers and preventing his reactivation. (TNG: "Time's Arrow, Part II" )
