The Gash is a large unsightly stretch of land in central North Dakota that never recovered from the ravages of the Great War. Containing numerous nuclear missile silos and military bases, the area was targeted heavily by the Chinese and left heavily irradiated. To make matters worse, desertification set in shortly after in the 2100s, and the Gash became a radioactive dustbowl that fueled many of the radiactive twisters that have ravaged the regions to the south. This dangerous and remote location is what led to there being a colony of Grayfell in the Gash, as it was far away from anyone who could abuse them.
