She became a naval accommodation ship for the German Navy in 1940. On 7 March 1945 during the evacuation of the forces from the Eastern Front, she struck a mine and sank. She was then salvaged by the Soviets in 1950. She was intended to become a passenger ship, the Yuri Dolgoruki she was instead finished in 1960 as a mother ship for whalers. She was then scrapped in 1977.
